Pupil Premium

At Chelmer Valley High School, we are committed to ensuring that disadvantage does not limit what a pupil can achieve or the opportunities available to them.

Pupil Premium is additional government funding provided to support eligible pupils, including pupils who are currently or have recently been eligible for targeted free school meals and pupils who were previously looked after. Eligibility for the wider free school meals offer introduced from September 2026 does not necessarily mean that a pupil attracts Pupil Premium funding.

Our approach is centred on high-quality teaching and an ambitious curriculum, supported by targeted academic intervention, literacy support, strong attendance and pastoral systems, enrichment, careers guidance and practical help where barriers to learning or participation exist.

Our current strategy builds on significant improvement in disadvantaged outcomes. Between 2022/23 and 2025/26, disadvantaged Attainment 8 increased from 31.3 to 40.9, while the within-school attainment gap reduced from approximately 19 points to 8.5 points. In 2025/26, disadvantaged outcomes in Attainment 8 and English and mathematics were also above the latest available national disadvantaged benchmarks.
