Students at Chelmer Valley High School have begun embracing their school environment in a meaningful way, thanks to a new community service initiative. Middle schoolers have taken to the school grounds, armed with litter pickers and gloves, to ensure the safety of the wide array of wildlife that shares the campus with them. The school grounds are home to a variety of animals, including muntjac deer, hares, and rabbits, which are often spotted in the early hours of the morning. These animals rely on the clean and safe environment the students are helping to maintain. By removing plastic and other litter that blows onto the property, the students are actively protecting this delicate ecosystem. A particularly striking moment came this week as Year 8 students were photographed tidying the school field under the glow of a serene morning sunrise. The sight of students working together to care for their surroundings was a heartwarming reminder of the shared responsibility we all have to nurture our environment. “We’re so proud to see our students taking such pride in their school and the wildlife around them,” said Mr. Storey “This initiative not only helps protect our animal visitors but also instills in our students a strong sense of community and environmental stewardship.” The enthusiasm students have shown for their newfound responsibility in tutor time has been infectious, and it’s been wonderful to witness them grow their appreciation for the environment while contributing to its preservation. 28/11/2024
