The Hair and Beauty Technical Award offers students the opportunity to develop a broad and comprehensive understanding of the hairdressing and beauty therapy sector and related industries including retail, leisure, manufacturing and other personal care services.
Practical enrichment opportunities, which are built into the curriculum, provides a viable practical alternative for students, which supports progression into post-16 and higher education, specifically related to the hair and beauty sector. The course will build on student’s prior knowledge of design from their Design and Technology learning, as well as aspects of biology, chemistry, history and art and design.
Key Stage 4
At GSCE level we offer the VTCT Level 1/2 Technical Award in the Study of Hair and Beauty. Over the two year course students will study three units:
· Business and entrepreneurship in the hair and beauty sector
· Anatomy, physiology and cosmetic science
· Design in the hair and beauty sector
Students are taught using a variety of classroom based activities as well as through practical enrichment activities, developed by professionals from the hair and beauty sector, enabling them to consolidate their theoretical knowledge and better prepare them for progression in the sector.
