Criminology

Criminology is one of the most popular A level options at Chelmer Valley. Considered a social science, Criminology offers students the opportunity to explore the nature of crime, deviance and social control in contemporary society through an interdisciplinary approach that draws on sociology, psychology and law.

As part of this course students study: 

• Unit 1: Changing Awareness of Crime 

• Unit 2: Criminological Theories 

• Unit 3: Crime Scene to Courtroom 

• Unit 4: Crime and Punishment

Criminology empowers students with vital skills such as critical analysis, collaborative teamwork, independent study, and hands-on research. Because of these versatile transferrable skills, it pairs seamlessly with nearly any A-level combination and serves as a strong foundation for a wide array of university and career paths.

How is the learning assessed?

• 50% NEA (Split into two assessments, one in each year) 

• 50% Exam (Split into two exams, one at the end of each year)
